With the PHANTOM E-60 S, DALI introduces a particularly intelligent approach to background music. Designed to reproduce both channels of a stereo signal from a single in-ceiling speaker, it addresses a common challenge in architectural audio installations: delivering enjoyable, balanced sound throughout spaces where listeners move freely.
In a traditional stereo system, the left and right channels are reproduced by two separate speakers. While this configuration is ideal for dedicated listening, it can become less practical when multiple speakers are distributed throughout a large space. Depending on their position, listeners may hear primarily one channel and miss certain musical details. This is why many background music installations favour mono reproduction, allowing every speaker to reproduce the complete musical programme.
The DALI PHANTOM E-60 S offers a particularly appealing alternative: integrating both stereo channels into a single speaker. Rather than separating the left and right channels between distant speakers, each PHANTOM E-60 S reproduces both channels from the same location. This design preserves the information contained in the stereo recording while providing more consistent musical coverage throughout the room.
This advantage becomes especially valuable when installing multiple PHANTOM E-60 S speakers throughout a space. Because each speaker reproduces both channels, listeners can move freely without depending on their position relative to a traditional stereo pair. While it is not intended to replace the precise soundstage of a dedicated stereo system, this approach provides an excellent listening experience for kitchens, dining rooms, open-concept living areas and other everyday spaces.
To achieve this, DALI employs a 6.5-inch dual voice coil woofer, paired with two independent 20 mm soft dome tweeters. Each channel benefits from its own tweeter and dedicated voice coil for bass and midrange reproduction. Positioned 144 mm apart, the two tweeters help preserve a sense of stereo separation despite the speaker's compact dimensions.
The woofer features a polypropylene cone, engineered according to DALI's low-loss acoustic principles. This technology promotes natural, controlled bass and midrange reproduction. Meanwhile, the soft dome tweeters deliver detailed high frequencies with wide dispersion, allowing music to be enjoyed across a broad listening area.
The PHANTOM E-60 S also features a dual-mono crossover architecture, with independent circuits for each channel. Two acoustic adjustment switches allow each channel to be individually tailored to the characteristics of the installation environment.
With a frequency response of 57 Hz to 25 kHz, 90 dB sensitivity and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms per channel, the PHANTOM E-60 S is well suited to a wide range of residential installations. DALI recommends 20 to 80 watts of amplification per channel, making it compatible with a broad selection of stereo and multi-zone amplifiers.
Its rotating mounting clamp system simplifies ceiling installation, while the slim magnetic grille ensures exceptionally discreet architectural integration.
At Audiophile Experts, we believe that the quality of a background music installation depends as much on sound distribution as it does on the performance of individual speakers. The DALI PHANTOM E-60 S perfectly illustrates this philosophy by preserving both stereo channels at every listening location without imposing the positioning constraints of a traditional stereo installation.
The richness of two stereo channels, the freedom to enjoy music without a fixed listening position. DALI PHANTOM E-60 S, an intelligent approach to background music.
